Welcome to the West
Whiteland Township Police Department's web site on the
Police Bicycle Patrol Unit. Our unit was formed as a
division of patrol in June 1997 and consists of several
volunteers who are highly motivated to serve this
community. With the growing demand for more effective
policing, Bicycle Patrols quickly establish a
much-needed partnership with the community in its
entirety.
Officers on bicycles are very approachable. Both
children and adults from all walks of life welcome this
concept with open arms. Bike Officers are now able to
engage in more informal relationships with all community
members. Although Community Oriented Policing ( C.O.P.)
is not a new concept, Bicycle Patrols are indeed a
positive, proactive and efficient approach to the needs
of the community. In addition to crime prevention, there
are many other special community events that bike
patrols are best suited for. For example, there are
surveillance details, holiday events, parades and 'Bike
Rodeos' that help promote safe riding.
If you have questions about bicycle safety or would
like to register your bicycle's serial number with the
police department, please email Bicycle Unit Coordinator
Matt Deceder at
